1835 Carrigan Canyon Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84109
Jacks Peak Trailhead is not for the faint of heart but is manageable for healthy adults and youth old enough to be very steady on their feet. There are some steep areas on this rocky mountain trail. Hikers are rewarded with spectacular views.
The trail makes a loop – about 2.5 miles in all. Jacks Peak is named for Jack Edwards. Jack was just a toddler when he died of leukemia. His distraught parents paid tribute to him in a unique way that allows the world to share their joy and pain. At the top of the hike is a peak. The child died in 1995. Shortly after, his parents placed a mailbox at the top of the mountain. In the mailbox they provided notebooks so guests could share their souls with Jack where spirits are high and the environment is mind-blowing.
Don’t expect shady respites on this loop. Hike early in the morning or during spring and fall when temperatures are easily manageable. Tell Jack we said, “Hey.”
