Canyon Rim is where mid-century charm meets modern living.

Canyon Rim is a product of post WWII development. While you won’t find Victorian or other ornate architectural styles here, you will find space and good old-fashioned functionality. Canyon Rim is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Millcreek. It was settled in the mid-1800s. The north boundary runs along I-215 and Parley’s Canyon, part of which is Parley’s Nature Park. This neighborhood was once a large unincorporated area of Salt Lake County. At that time, it was considered a census-designated place (CDP). In 2010, it joined neighboring communities in consolidating with the Millcreek CDP. In 2016, the Millcreek CDP incorporated. It was a great benefit to Canyon Rim and the other neighborhoods because infrastructure and other vital services were managed by the new city.
Millcreek’s population is about 65,000. In the city, an estimated 62 percent of households own their homes. Many families and young professionals love the city thanks to the active lifestyle encouraged there. Much of this city is considered dense suburban but decidedly urban areas are nearby.

There are four primary neighborhoods in Millcreek including:

  • Canyon Rim
  • East Millcreek
  • Olympus Cove
  • Millcreek proper

The majority of Canyon Rim is residential but there is a great little commercial center on the east side of 3300 South.

Based on the most recently available demographics the population of Canyon Rim is near 11,000. The median age is 35 years old. The largest age group, 29.5 percent is 25 to 44. The second largest age group, 25 percent, is under 18 years old. There seems to be a lack of current data, and there are the numbers vary. These are only estimates.
Utah’s famous spirit of volunteerism is alive and well here! An organization named, Canyon Rim is Community, is a grassroots group that engages neighbors through events and activities to care for one another and improve local surroundings. The homes here tend to be large with spacious yards to accommodate young families. About 29 percent of the households in Canyon Rim have children under the age of 18. The median age in Canyon Rim is 37. That means there’s a great mix of younger, middle-aged, and older adults. People here tend to look out for one-another. 1. Millcreek Common

Millcreek Common is an exciting community hub that offers something for everyone in Millcreek. It has become a central gathering place. It features a unique skating loop, which is an ice rink in winter and a roller-skating track in warmer months. The Common also has grassy areas perfect for picnics and play, along with shaded seating. Local eateries and shops surround the plaza, offering dining and shopping options.

If you live at the foot of a major mountain, it makes sense to have a climbing wall to brush up on those skills. Millcreek Common’s climbing wall is the tallest in Utah.

The climbing wall is an exciting feature for beginner and experienced climbers. It offers various routes with different levels of difficulty. The wall is designed to be a fun, interactive element. Climbers can enjoy the outdoors while challenging themselves physically, with the vibrant atmosphere of Millcreek Common.

2. Parley’s Historic Nature Park

Parley’s Historic Nature Park is a little slice of nature tucked away near the mouth of Parley’s Canyon. It’s a great place to relax and renew without going too far outside the city. Utah treasures its historic sites and this is one of them. Explore the remnants of a tollhouse that dates back to when pioneers first ventured into the valley. You can also find traces of Dudler’s Inn and Wine Celler. It was built in 1864, but sadly burned down in 1952, according to an article published on the Only in Utah: Nature, Parks & Gardens website. Parley’s Creek is a highlight of the park. Enjoy picturesque views of the water and the surrounding mountains. There’s an easy 2-mile trail that winds through the park, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a brisk walk. The hike to the peak is about 6 miles round-trip, with an elevation gain of roughly 2,600 feet. It’s a moderately challenging trail and the final stretch can be steep and rocky.
