Following is a list of five fun places to go in and around Rose Park in Salt Lake City:
1. Salt Lake Regional Athletic Complex (RAC)
2280 Rose Park Ln, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
RAC was completed and opened for use in 2015. It was developed to meet the growing demand for a large, modern facility to host regional and national sporting events, especially for soccer and other field sports. Since then, it’s been a key destination for athletes and tournaments in the region. It features 16 full-sized fields. They’re mostly used for soccer, but they can be adapted for use in rugby, lacrosse, and other field sports.
The complex has plenty of parking, more than 1,200 spots, and excellent paved walking paths. The complex has enough clean restrooms to accommodate large crowds too.
There are shaded picnic areas and many concessions stands too. Water fountains are strategically placed throughout the facility to help keep athletes and spectators hydrated.
The complex is surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains and the Jordan River Parkway is nearby. This relaxed, suburban complex has been a great boon to the area.
2. Rose Park Golf Course
1386 N Redwood Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
Rated as one of Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play, the Rose Park Golf Course is well-known for its bent grass greens. Just imagine playing 18 holes on immaculate greens adorned with pine and willow trees that frame the fairways.
The Wasatch and Oquirrh mountains in the distance help set the stage for a calm, relaxing round.
The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout. Beginners can make it through this course, but it’s challenging enough to keep the interest of more experienced golfers too. The course is known for its wide fairways and large greens, so it’s forgiving if you’re still sharpening your skills. The layout is relatively flat so it’s easy to walk. Carts are available too. The water hazards make it a little tricky. Quite a few of the holes are near ponds and streams. The big, beautiful trees help make this uber natural scene stunning but those trees do add to the difficulty of some shots.
You’ll find a driving range, a pro shop, and a clubhouse too at Rose Park Golf Course.
3. Rose Park Community Garden
871 N Cornell St, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
You don’t have to be an athlete to love living in Rose Park! Some people find other ways to express themselves here and one of those ways is through gardening, and sharing.
The Rose Park Community Garden produces 4,000 pounds of fresh organic produce annually. This is not your average tomato garden. It is part of a program committed to nourishing and nurturing people with instruction, workshops, events, and activities, and the gift of understanding one of Utah’s most historic industries – farming.
If you live in the area, think about growing a vegetable garden in one of the plots. Reach out to the Community Garden at (801) 359-2658 for details on how to reserve yours. If you’re just visiting, meander through the many gardens, relax in the shade, and just enjoy the nature and growth around you. Classes are frequently offered to enrich locals’ lives and feed their green thumbs.
4. Great Salt Lake State Park
The Great Salt Lake is a massive, shallow saltwater lake located 10 to 15 miles from Rose Park. It’s the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most unique bodies of water in the world.
From Rose Park, you can take I-215 North and merge onto I-80 West, which leads you straight toward the Great Salt Lake State Park. This drive takes about 15-20 minutes. Great Salt Lake State Park (closest to Rose Park) features a marina, picnic areas, and some fascinating views.
If you’re heading to Antelope Island that’s a little farther, about 40-45 minutes on I-15, but totally worth it for the scenic views, wildlife, and hiking trails. On Antelope Island you will see wildlife like bison and antelopes. There are some amazing hiking trails there. Many people take long bike rides on the island too.
The lake is special because it’s very salty. It’s saltier than the ocean. Brine shrimp, brine flies, and some algae grow in the lake – that’s about it. Believe it or not, the brine shrimp industry is huge in Utah. They are used in fish food for example. Birds that visit the island feed on Brine Shrimp. There are many different varieties and it’s a wonderful place for birdwatching. Salt is also harvested from this fascinating ecosystem.
When water levels are low in the lake, people can float on the surface very easily because the saline level gets higher as the lake gets drier. It’s an eerie experience, but one everybody should have at least once.
5. Jordan River Parkway Trailhead
600 N 1200 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84116
This trailhead provides access to the Jordan River Parkway Trail in Rose Park. It’s a convenient starting point for walks, runs, and bike rides along the river. This is a lovely stretch of the trail. It’s such a scenic and peaceful place to be. It’s like a little reprieve in the middle of a big old city. The trail is paved and it’s maintained.
This section of the parkway is part of a longer trail that stretches for miles. It connects various parks and recreational areas throughout the Salt Lake Valley. In Rose Park it connects to nearby parks, like Cottonwood Park and General Holm Park.
There are benches and picnic tables along the trail where you can take a break or enjoy a meal outdoors. Some shaded areas provide nice spots to relax, especially on warm days.
The parkway is home to various bird species and other wildlife. You might catch sight of ducks, geese, and other animals along the river.

Don’t feel like you have to sacrifice superb shopping for the suburban lifestyle. Rose Park’s proximity to the very urban Historic Downtown Salt Lake City means shopping is a breeze. Seasonal events, concerts, and outdoor activities keep the energy here high.
Creative murals throughout this rare location evoke a sense of pride and belonging in me.
3. Trolley Square
602 E 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84102
Trolley Square is a historic shopping and entertainment destination. It’s one of the city’s most iconic spots. Trolley Square was originally a streetcar hub in the early 20th century. Built in the 1900s, it was a maintenance facility for Salt Lake City’s trolley system. After the streetcar was discontinued, the property was transformed into a shopping center in the 1970s. Developers set out to maintain the property’s historical charm, and succeeded beautifully. The brick buildings, iron fixtures, and old trolley cars give the place a nostalgic feeling.
The mall is home to unique boutiques, national retailers, and specialty shops. You’ll find popular stores like Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, alongside local favorites like Tabula Rasa for unusual gifts. Dining options range from casual spots like The Spaghetti Factory to more eclectic choices like Desert Edge Brewery, known for its craft beer.
Trolley Square hosts art galleries, yoga studios, and regular community events. The architecture and open layout make it a great spot to explore.
