A large part of the Salt Lake International Airport is located in Westpointe, that’s a plus for frequent travelers, and the Regional Athletic Recreation Complex borders Westpointe on the east. Westpointe is all about family-centered, functional living in the Wasatch mountain shadow.

Westpointe’s suburban vibe feels comfortable to families that want to raise their children in the shadow of the magnificent Wasatch Mountains! The neighborhood’s roots are in industrial development. As Salt Lake City expanded after WWII, factory workers began making their homes close to jobs. There aren’t many ornate styles of homes here, but you will find some very roomy mid-century modern homes that prioritize comfort and utility over design. There is also a surprising amount of tract housing still to be found in this area. Minimal traditional homes have a very basic appeal compared to their more decorative predecessors, with simple rooflines and small porches.

A Young Population Keeps Things Light in Westpointe

The eastern portion of Westpointe is a dense suburban residential community with a population of 8,294, according to Niche.com, a company that gathers, evaluates, and publishes information about U.S. Neighborhoods. Most residents here own their homes and residents tend to lean liberal.

The east portion of Westpointe is populated with families that live in homes with big yards and gardens. There’s plenty of room to spread out! The community is surrounded by open space and some areas of industrial development. The Salt Lake International Airport is west of the residential sector. The mountain views are thrilling from here and the Great Salt Lake is less than an hour away.

Families love Westpointe for beautiful parks, schools, and community activities. Home prices are more affordable than they are closer to the city’s core and business center. The atmosphere is relaxed, the spaces are large and opened, and quality schools educate the neighborhood’s youth. The largest age demographic group here is 10 years old and younger! That’s right, 18 percent of the Westpointe residents are children! For that reason, the community hosts many fun and exciting events that cater to kids.

Salt Lake International Airport (SLC) is a major transportation hub in the western United States. It provides domestic and international connections. It’s located just minutes from the residential portion of Westpointe. It serves millions of passengers annually. SLC recently underwent a significant modernization project, with a new terminal that features state-of-the-art facilities, expanded gate capacity, and improved dining and shopping options. Delta Air Lines maintains a major hub at SLC. Thanks to its central location, the airport is a key gateway for business and leisure travelers heading to destinations like the nearby ski resorts, national parks, or urban attractions in Salt Lake City.

The Regional Athletic Complex (RAC) in Rose Park which borders Westpointe, is a massive sports facility designed to host regional and national sporting events. Located on the outskirts of Rose Park, it has 16 full-size soccer and multi-use fields. It’s a hub for soccer tournaments, rugby, lacrosse, and other field sports. The park is built for large-scale events. It has plenty of parking, walking paths, and great views of the surrounding mountains. There’s an awesome pond there where ducks some to feed and rest. There are picnic areas and shaded spots where families and spectators can relax. The RAC draws athletes from all over the region, giving it a lively atmosphere, especially on weekends.

Sprawling Green Space

The green and open spaces surrounding Westpointe offer residents and visitors plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors. The Jordan River Parkway is one of the neighborhood’s key highlights, providing scenic trails along the river for walking, biking, and birdwatching. This natural corridor creates a peaceful escape from urban life while connecting Westpointe to other parts of the city. Another major feature is the Regional Athletic Complex with its 16 soccer fields, open grassy areas, and playgrounds. Westpointe also has access to smaller neighborhood parks and open areas, offering places for families to relax, play, and enjoy the fresh air. These spaces all add to the neighborhood’s laid-back, suburban feeling!

Not Quite Where the Buffalo Roam – but Close

Buffalo don’t roam in Westpointe but they roam on the Great Salt Lake’s Antelope Island and that’s pretty close! Westpointe is about as close to being rural as it can get without actually being rural. The ambiance of wide-opened spaces feels freeing. Some of that undeveloped space is zoned industrial. Some is agricultural. Some will be used for residential development day. All of it is beautiful. That’s Utah’s brand.
